Testimonials

Coming into this program I was looking for some direction. I've taken many courses throughout the years that range from cooking to sciences. This program helped me decide that computer technology was the field I wanted to pursue. The Applied Business Technology program also helped me gain the skills needed to gain entry into the Information Technology and Applied Systems program.

Glen Morris

In September 2000, I entered the Applied Business Technology Program. My first few weeks were filled with trepidation. I clearly remember my frustration in trying to achieve a typing speed of 25 words per minute just to enter the program. Somehow I barely slipped by the requirements and entered the unknown with absolutely no skills. However, I learned that if you stay committed and work hard, ten months of "Cortez Peters Boot Camp" really isn't as long as it seems. I never imagined that my experiences over the next ten months would have such an impact on my future.

In the second term, I chose the Administrative Assistant Specialty. This specialty fully prepared me for the job I obtained prior to graduation. I scored very highly on the testing I took for this position because of my training. During the interview, techniques and lessons learned in class came to mind, and the advice from teachers and classmates was invaluable.

When you graduate from the ABTP, you are highly qualified to work in any office. Employers in our community seek employees from this program. I am forever grateful to Betty Serjeant, Coni Long, Gerry Peppard, and all the other teachers who challenged me and encouraged me. Aside from the skills I've learned this past year, I have also gained friendships that will last a lifetime.

If you are uncertain about what you want to do in your future, I recommend the Applied Business Technology Program. There is no better way to improve your skills. In June 2001, I received a proficiency in keyboarding award for achieve 70 words per minute on a five-minute timing. If I can do it, anybody can do it! Thanks to the ABTP, I now hold a clerical position with the City of Nanaimo.

I have a university degree, but my absence from the workforce for 10 years meant that I couldn't compete in the computer-driven employment scene. The ABTP brought me up-to-speed with current computer technology, and the knowledge gained in this program has given me confidence in my ability to re-enter the workforce. Now I am finding that my skills and knowledge are current and comprehensive and that I can work competently beside my co-workers. The program's level of instruction is excellent; the camaraderie between students a bonus! I would highly recommend this program to anyone.
