National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE)

The National Survey of Student Engagement tracks baccalaureate student opinions on a variety of measures related to their educational experience. The survey is sent to first-year and fourth-year students and results show differences in the experiences of these student cohorts. The survey is more commonly known for providing scores for the Maclean's Magazine annual university rankings issue. More than 1,400 post-secondary institutions have participated in NSSE since its inception, with 595 participating in the US and Canada in 2010. VIU currently schedules its participation in NSSE every second year.
