Reporting to the Administrative Assistant, provide secretarial assistance to the department. The candidate must be team-oriented and have the ability to set and meet goals and ensure actions support the plans and vision of Vancouver Island University and the Cowichan Campus. Provide reception duties, communicate office activities, word processing, research, prepare agendas, take minutes, monitor/order supplies, produce and maintain databases/data entry, process key requisitions, electronic filing, and departmental mail; provide relief support staff coverage (as required), assist with campus events and perform other related duties as assigned.|
One-year certificate in Applied Business Technology with specialty training as Administrative Assistant, or equivalent, from an appropriately accredited institution. Three to five years senior level office experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Senior level technology skills (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, desktop publishing) and ability to learn new systems. Senior level typing skills at 50+ wpm. Strong customer service orientation. Superior telephone manners and proven interpersonal skills. Meticulous records maintenance skills. Excellent written and verbal skills. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills. Experience working in a highly confidential work environment and ability to handle confidential or sensitive information appropriately. Experience in working cooperatively and effectively with others. Strong organizational and time management skills.|
One year experience working in a post-secondary environment. A valid class 5 BC Driver's Licence and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record (as specified in Vancouver Island University policy and procedures).|
