Duties:	The Department of Political Studies at VIU invites applications for a full-time regular position in comparative politics and international relations. The area of expertise is open; however, the successful candidate will be expected to teach some of the following courses: POLI 200: International Peace and Security, POLI 335: Asian Governments and Politics, POLI 400: Theories of International Relations, POLI 320: American Foreign Policy, POLI 321: Canadian Foreign Policy, POLI 151: Law and Politics in Canada. Faculty will participate in program and faculty meetings and liaise with support staff, other staff, and faculty. Vancouver Island University places an emphasis on teaching excellence and also encourages scholarly activity, service, and community involvement. While the primary activity will take place on the Nanaimo campus, VIU also offers programing at alternate locations, including its regional campuses in Powell River and Duncan. Faculty may be required from time-to-time to teach at these campuses or to design and deliver either online or blended-delivery courses. As a growing department with a newly established Major, we are interested in a candidate who will contribute in a collegial fashion to the Department's ongoing strategic planning. Potential new areas of teaching that the successful candidate might bring to the Department include environmental politics, comparative indigenous politics, international law, gender politics, and politics of the Americas. 	Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.
Required Qualifications:	Ph.D. in Political Science or be near completion, and demonstrate commitment to undergraduate teaching, learning, and student success through scholarship and institutional service.
Preferred Qualifications:	Recent teaching experience at the undergraduate level, demonstrated ability to successfully design and deliver Political Science courses, and experience working as part of a team to teach in, to develop, or to enhance undergraduate programs, including inter-disciplinary programs such as Global Studies.
