Teach, support, and evaluate students in all aspects of the Dental Assistant program, including dental clinic/lab settings. Undertake course preparation and work in a team environment to ensure program standards are maintained. Design and grade student assignments and tests; evaluate student progress in courses. Participate in faculty/program meetings. Travel may be required to a variety of settings on Vancouver Island.|
Available courses include: DENA 150T (Dental Assisting Practice I) and DENA 151T (Dental Assisting Practice II).

Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning, and student success through ongoing professional training, subject currency, and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and department committees; meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.
Dental Assistant Certificate from an appropriately accredited institution with license and registration with the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia (CDSBC). Provincial Instructors Diploma, or equivalent. Minimum of five years of clinical experience with current knowledge and skills of the dental office setting, including reception and computer skills. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills and effective team skills. Willing to be flexible in assuming a variety of tasks. Proven ability to design and implement problem-solving strategies and tools. Competence in computer applications. Demonstrated competence for teaching curriculum in a variety of modes.|
Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record (as specified in Vancouver Island University policy and procedures).
Bachelor's Degree from an appropriately accredited institution. Experience teaching adults in a post-secondary setting.|
