Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning, and student success through ongoing professional training, subject currency, and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and department committees; meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.|
Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an appropriately accredited institution. Provincial Instructor's Diploma, or equivalent, (if in progress, maximum of two years to complete). Three to five years current teaching experience in ABT or Office Administration field in a post-secondary setting. An acceptable combination of related education and experience teaching adults may be considered. Demonstrated experience in meeting determined outcomes and ABT evaluation standards. Proven ability in classroom management. Thorough working knowledge of computer applications (MS 2010 Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Database and Publisher). Excellent communication skills both written and oral. A high level of energy and enthusiasm is essential. Proven positive interpersonal skills in dealing with students. Sensitivity to the needs of a wide variety of adult students returning to education. Willingness and ability to work effectively as part of a team comprised of instructors, administrators, support staff and students. Demonstrated current experience with computer applications and office procedures.
For Pracicum course: Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record (as specified in Vancouver Island University policy and procedures).
