The High School at VIU is a private high school located on the Nanaimo Campus of Vancouver Island University and offers Grades 10 to 12 to international and Canadian students. The school operates within the VIU International Education Department. It provides a combined ESL and academic curriculum designed to meet the BC graduation requirements.|
Teach courses in one or more of the following subject areas in one or more quarters throughout the year:
ESL (English as a Second Language)
Fine Arts and/or Applied Skills
Planning and Graduation Transitions

Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning, and student success through ongoing professional training, subject currency, and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and department committees; meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.
Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution; current BC teacher certification (conditional certificate may be considered); subject area expertise as demonstrated by a declared minor, or equivalent, or substantial successful teaching experience in the area to be taught; and minimum equivalent to two years full-time high school experience in positions covering at least one complete semester/term in an accredited institution.
Willingness and ability to sponsor extracurricular activities.
ESL Component: ESL training.
Master's degree from an appropriately accredited institution. Major in subject area to be taught. Experience teaching international students in an accredited institution. Familiarity with the Integrated Resource Packages and provincial examinations (where applicable) for the courses to be taught. Experience instructing ESL students. Experience using technology in the classroom.
Class 4 BC Driver's License (permitting operation of up to a 24 passenger bus) and have a satisfactory driving record (as per VIU Policy and Procedures).
ESL component: ESL certification. ESL teaching experience in an accredited school.
