Reporting to the Homestay/Peerstay Manager, provide support to international students at Malaspina High School (MHS) and Vancouver Island University (VIU) and their host families. This position produces a high-volume of work. Liaise with agents, families (domestic and international) and international students, clarify program parameters, policy, practice and expectations. Coordinate information, prepare welcome letters for host families and students, contact students and agents to request missing file information and/or follow up as required. Provide initial contact with general public; respond to program enquiries, field calls from host families; assess new host applications for basic suitability, and liaise with various on and off-campus departments and organizations in regard to host or student support on campus and in the community. Maintain host and student databases and update host website. Maintain homestay deposit account; process group program schedules, and fees of groups and individual international students; initiate purchase orders, cheque requisitions and EFT deposit refunds to students, groups and hosts. Provide support to Homestay/Peerstay Manager and coordinator(s) as required.|
One year community college, institute or equivalent from an appropriately accredited institution. Three to five years recent, relevant experience, preferably in a post-secondary setting with international student contact. Advanced level word processing and MS Office proficiency. Ability to work independently and as part of a team; set work priorities and handle multiple tasks. Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated sensitivity to cross cultural groups. Fully proficient written and spoken English. Strong decision making and problem solving skills. Ability to reprioritize, deal with multiple urgent and/or sensitive situations.|
Applied Business Technology program. Experience communicating with non-native English speakers (both written and spoken). Proficiency in a language other than English.|
