| Duties: |
Working under the direct supervision of the program instructor, monitor, supervise and interact with students in a carpentry shop and on a construction site to ensure wood frame and construction projects are performed to program and industry standards. Observe the class and assist students where and when required. Demonstrate and monitor safe use of tools and equipment. Maintain an inventory of tools, equipment and supplies in the shop and at the worksite. Ensure students have access to tools and that carpentry shop and worksite are clean, safe, and well organized. Schedule vehicle for cartage of goods, pick up of supplies and monitor petty cash. |
| Required Qualifications: |
High school diploma plus ELTT Carpentry Level 1 or equivalent. Familiarity with Applied Program Safety Manual, WorkSafeBC regulations and WHMIS. Three to five years industry experience in layout, concrete forming, and framing. Ability to demonstrate trades math skills. Demonstrated ability to read and understand dimensions and symbols on construction drawings. Ability to demonstrate procedures and to communicate effectively with both the students and instructor. Ability to estimate supply needs. Worksite supervisory experience. Inventory and basic bookkeeping experience. Ability to perform physical requirements of the position. Familiarity with apprenticeship training in the British Columbia post-secondary system. Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record (as specified in Vancouver Island University policy and procedures). Must be certified for Occupational First Aid Level 1. |

Red seal in Carpentry. Interviews will take place February 15, 2013. |
