21 hours per week. Shifts may vary. Additional hours, if required, to be submitted on timesheets.|
Provide direct administrative support to the Departments of Anthropology, Criminology, Geography, Global Studies, Liberal Studies, Philosophy, Political Studies, Psychology, and Sociology (comprising of 70-plus faculty members), and to the Faculty of Social Sciences in general. Operate as frontline reception by assisting students, faculty, and the public with general and specific enquiries. Work in a confidential environment as a part of the Faculty administrative team to serve a diverse population, using excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Work proactively with minimal supervision.|
One-year certificate in Applied Business Technology with specialty training as Administrative Assistant from an appropriately accredited institution. Minimum three years related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Training and experience should include computer literacy in word processing, desktop publishing, and Excel. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent command of English is required to effectively communicate with faculty and the VIU community at large.|
Proficiency in database systems. Experience preparing office manuals. Webpage design and maintenance. Emergency Warden training.|
