Vancouver Island University food services operates two cafeterias, Campus Caterers, and the Discovery Room. Works closely with Culinary Arts, Professional Baking, and Hospitality Management to provide food services to the campus community. Food Services is part of the Ancillary Services team.|
Staffing:Oversee the day-to-day operations for Food Services on the Nanaimo Campus. Schedule staff, submit time sheets, monitor the sick line and organize coverage when required. Coordinate food services work flow and direct staff in the front end and in the kitchen. Identify HR needs and issues. Identify training needs and maintain a calendar of required training for staff.
Inventory:Implement inventory control measures to ensure costs are controlled, ensure inventory levels in the cafeteria are kept to a desired level to serve customers throughout the day. Investigate new product offerings, ensure products are priced appropriately, address pricing issues, and ensure the inventory control and POS are maintained with correct pricing.
Maintenance:Maintain a routine maintenance schedule, respond to maintenance issues. Maintain a clean, well-organized cafeteria to promote sales and service to the community. Set up cleaning schedules and oversee cleaning.
Business:Facilitate special marketing events in food services, approve room booking requests. Maintain communication with Culinary Arts and other University departments. Maintain good communication with Manager, Food Services. Provide excellent customer service.
May open or close facility. Shifts may vary and could include evening and weekend work, may be required to travel for food shows a minimum of two times per year.
Grade 12 plus 1 year of college credits (30 credits) in a related field. FoodSafe, Serving it Right. Minimum 5 years experience in a related food service field including 3 years in a supervisory role, experience managing work flow, experience working with a computerized inventory system. Strong computer skills, including MS Office.
A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience supervising in a union environment. Experience working in an institutional setting.|
