As a member of the Campus Career Centre (CCC) team, provide direct service to both students in programs incorporating experiential learning models (i.e., internship, practicum, work placements, and Cooperative Education) as well as the general student population using our career Services; career development; and employability skills. Develop and facilitate curriculum for credit and non-credit courses in career and employment education.
Serve as a contact point for students at the CCC, providing career assessment, advice, planning and referral to best meet their needs. Provide support to experiential learning including assisting in development/creation of experiential learning opportunities (i.e., Phys. Ed or Creative Writing). Provide support to students in accessing placement, mentoring, problem-solving, and evaluation of experiential learning opportunities. Develop and provide services to assist all students in the career development process and employability skills development. Assist in identification of work opportunities for students and graduates and provide support to students in making the transition to employment. Delivery of the above services may include one-to-one service, group work, workshops, teaching credit courses, integrated seminars within programs, on-line course and resources, print materials and appropriate forms, templates and support documents. Work with other departments to promote CCC services as outlined. Liaise with Student Services, instructional departments, community agencies, and employers to provide effective information and referral and coordinated service delivery for students. Participate in evaluation of services delivered; committee work and staff meetings as required. Maintain records and prepare reports. Assist in preparation of proposals and funding applications.
Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities, including, student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.|
Bachelor's Degree in a field relevant to career development and three years recent relevant experience in career development employment services, working with youth and adult. Proven skills and experience in a wide-range of experiential learning environments; career and employment education, training, advice and support. Development and delivery of group workshops, seminars and courses. Development of resource materials in a variety of formats (including computer-based). Proven recent labour market analysis skills.
Relevant computer applications (word processing, databases, internet use, web page maintenance). Experience liaising with employers and community service agencies. Ability to work one-on-one and in groups. Ability to assess, place, monitor, problem-solve and evaluate learning in a variety of work experience settings. Knowledge of employability skills and strategies for skill development. Familiarity with needs and challenges of a diverse student population in relation to career development, employability skills and transition to employment.
Excellent demonstrated interpersonal skills, organizational skills, teamwork, initiative and independence within a team setting, written and oral communication skills, problem-solving skills, creativity. Ability to work with sensitivity in a large organization. Must possess a valid BC Driver's License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record (as specified in Vancouver Island University policy and procedures).
Master's Degree in a relevant field. A valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record (as specified in Vancouver Island University policy and procedures.|
