Support the Dental Hygiene Diploma Program in the Faculty of Health & Human Services. Work flexible hours according to student and instructor requirements throughout the academic year.
Attend clinical/lab/seminar sessions as scheduled to provide verbal and written feedback to students regarding their developing clinical skills. Work in collaboration with faculty to maintain and update teaching resources/tools in regards to clinical skills and techniques. Remediation may occur within or outside clinical times. Organize, manage, and distribute client charts to students upon their request (chart allocation, chart organization).
Provide, upon referral from a faculty member, remediation to students to assist them to achieve safe practice of dental hygiene skills, consolidate critical thinking competencies, and to help overcome challenges related to specific dental hygiene skills in a non-evaluative environment. Provide feedback to students and faculty, but not be responsible for summative student evaluation. As well, it is not the role or responsibility of the Clinical Resource Hygienist to provide instruction to students for missed classes.
Work with students on a 1:1 basis, or if appropriate, in small groups. Sessions are typically booked in 30 minutes to 1 hour appointments to a maximum of 3 sessions per student per semester. If a student requires/requests remediation beyond 3 sessions per semester, the student must be re-referred by the faculty. To assist in tracking remediation hours, the faculty request will be sent via email to the Clinical Resource Hygienist, and copied to the program chair.
