Mavis Wyse

My name is Mavis Wyse (Seward) and I work as an Elder on the Cowichan Campus.  My father Bill Seward along with my grandfather are from Snuneymuxw First Nation and my step mother Maria comes from Roswell, New Mexico.  My late mother, Mary and her parents Art and Susan (Jack) Joe are from Cowichan.

I have two older brothers, William and Glen, son Paul and daughter in law Ange and two grand-daughters (Brianna and Julianne) with many nieces and nephews who are like my own children.

I enjoy spending time with my family, attending cultural and war canoe events and mostly I enjoy sewing.  I continue to learn life’s teachings every day.

For 19 years I worked as a counselor then moved to Healthier Communities program with CSETS (Coast Salish Employment Training Society) and am now part-time at the Cowichan Campus at Vancouver Island University.  I enjoy supporting students and organizing the Elder’s Teachings and serve as a resource for students, faculty and staff.
