Admission Process

Admission Requirements

  • Grade 12 preferred.
  • C grade or better in English 12 and C grade or better in Math 10
    or completion of English and Math assessments.
  • Touch keyboarding skill of 25 nwpm is highly recommended.
  • Access to a PCwith Microsoft Office 2010 software recommended
  • Applicant MUST declare the specialty they wish to take (Accounting, Legal or Administrative Assistant) on their application.

Application Process

Apply for admission to Vancouver Island University, Nanaimo campus

  • In Person: Go to Building 200, Admissions Department. Take an official high school transcript with you.
  • By Mail: Out-of-towners may print the Admissions Form from the website, fill out the form, and mail it and high school transcript to Vancouver Island University, Admissions, 900 Fifth Street, Nanaimo, BC V9R 5S5 or fax to (250) 740-6479.
  • Online: Go to ApplyBC.
  • Pay application fee.
  • Once Admissions has reviewed the application, you will receive a letter advising you if you have met admission requirements for ABT Online or if you are required to complete an assessment.

Entrance Assessments

Any applicant that does not have a transcript to verify entrance requirements must write assessment tests.  To view what the assessment will consist of, please review the information found on the Assessment Centre web site.

There is an assessment fee of $15 and $10 for rewrites.

To request entrance assessments:

  • If you live in Nanaimo or within driving distance of Nanaimo and are required to complete an assessment, please call (250)740-6416 to book a time. Be sure to indicate which assessment(s)—i.e., English or math—you are required to complete.  Assessments are scheduled during normal office hours.

  • If you live in Duncan or within driving distance of Duncan and are required to complete an assessment please call  (250) 746-3509 to book a time. Be sure to indicate which program you require the assessment for and the specific assessment(s)—i.e., English or Math—you are required to complete.

  • If you live in Powell River or within driving distance of Powell River and are required to complete an assessment please call  (604) 485-2878 to book a time. Be sure to indicate which program you require the assessment for and the specific assessment(s)—i.e., English or Math—you are required to complete.

  • If you are unable to come to Nanaimo, Duncan or Powell River  to complete the onsite assessment, please contact the Vancouver Island University Assessment Centre by calling (250) 740-6413 or review their web site. Be sure to specify that you are unable to come to Nanaimo and that you wish to write the assessment for the ABT Program.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS:

The registration and fee information included here for the ABT program is for Canadian students only.
