Employment Opportunities Mailing List

Graduates of the Applied Business Technology Program, are invited to join the ABT Employment Email Distribution List/Newsletter. This is a FREE service and students subscribe and unsubscribe themselves.  Graduating students are provided with information on how to subscribe to this service when they are sent off to work experience.

From time to time, employers ask us to supply them with the names and resumes of our graduates for positions that they have available.  The mailing allows us to email the details of job opportunities to graduates seeking employment and then have them email us their interest in the posting.

Only ABT graduates will be considered for postings that are offered through this email list and by responding, graduates will be agreeing to let us forward their resume for consideration and to act as their referee. 

The process we follow is:

  • We receive a request for resumes from an employer.
  • An email is be sent to everyone on the mailing list. 
    [Information regarding the employer will be removed and only the details of the city, duties and requirements will be sent out.] 
  • All resumes are sent to us by email to us in response to the posting.
    Resumes must be in Microsoft WORD, Microsoft Publisher or PDF.
  • All resumes are reviewed by the Program Chair to ensure that the applicant is an ABT graduate and meets the minimum requirements of the posting.
  • Vancouver Island University will forward approved resumes to the employer.
  • We will then advise applicants by email if their resume has been submitted and who the employer is.
  • Employers will contact applicants directly for an interview.
  • We will follow up with graduates, from time to time, to see if this process is working.

There may be exceptions to this process and we will make note of this at the beginning of the job opportunity email.

All contact will be by email and graduates can opt in and opt out of the mailing list.

We hope graduates will find this service of use and ask that graduates keep in touch with us to let us know where they are working by emailing abt@viu.ca.

If you are an ABT graduate and you do not get an invitation to join our mailing list please email abt@viu.ca and include the following information:

  1. Your full name
  2. Your student number or your birth date
  3. The year you graduated from the program
