Admission Requirements

  • University degree or technical diploma from an accredited college or institute (topic related to Geography or GIS, such as RMOT, Fisheries, Computer Science, Cartography, etc).
  • Applicants must provide evidence of having completed the following introductory-level courses from an accredited post-secondary institution, preferably within the last three years:
    • Geographic Information Systems (equivalent to VIU’s GEOG 328). If you have not already successfully completed GEOG 328 or an equivalent course, but have all the other prerequisites for the ADGISA program, complete your application and once you are conditionally accepted you will receive a letter outlining your conditional acceptance based on successful completion of the CMES 001 ESRI – Introduction course (available online - more information here). This course costs $250 CAD and is ONLY AVAILABLE to students who have been conditionally accepted to the ADGISA program contingent on successful completion of this GEOG 328 equivalency. *Note that FRST 182 Geographic Information Systems - part of the Forest Resource Technology Program - is considered equivalent to GEOG 328. As well, BCIT's GIST 7100 Fundamentals of GIS is considered equivalent to GEOG 328.

The program is taught and assessed in English. Students whose first language is not English may be required to show evidence of proficiency in English (i.e., min. TOEFL 550, IELTS 6.0).

Recommendations for Admission

  • Academic or applied experience in remote sensing, computing science, and databases is advantageous.
