How to Calculate your GPA:
Students are assigned a letter grade for each course taken, and each letter grade carries a grade point value. Note:The new grade scale comes into effective September 1, 2010.
| Grade | Grade Point Value (old followed by new) |
| A+ | was 10... is now 4.33 |
| A | was 9.... is now 4.00 |
| A- | was 8 ... is now 3.67 |
| B+ | was 7 ... is now 3.33 |
| B | was 6 ... is now 3.00 |
| B- | was 5 ... is now 2.67 |
| C+ | was 4 ... is now 2.33 |
| C | was 3 ... is now 2.00 |
| C- | was 2 ... is now 1.67 |
| D | was 1 ... is now 1.00 |
| F | 0 |
- Each course grade is assigned a numerical value according to the above table.
- The Grade Point for each course is calculated by multiplying the credit value of the course by the numerical value earned. The Grade Point Average is the total grade points for all courses divided by total credits earned. Only Fall and Spring semester grades are used to calculate GPA for Academic Probation purposes. Summer Session or Intersession grades are not used.
- Example 1:
You take 3 courses in the year - one is 3 credits, one is 4 credits, and the other is 1 credit.
ENGL 115 (3) C- = You multiply the credits x the numerical value (3x1.67= 5.01)
PHED 132 (1) D = 1 1x1 = 1
BIOL 156 (4) C+ = 4 2.33 x4 = 9.32
You then add up the total value (5.01+1+9.32 = 15.33 ) and divide by the total credits (3+1+4 = 8) which comes out to 1.92(15.33/8). The actual number was 1.91625 but was rounded up to 1.92
A GPA of 1.92 is lower than the minimum necessary to have probationary status lifted. - Example 2:
| Course (credits) | Grade value | calculation | numerical value |
| ENGL 111 (3) | grade A- = 3.67 | 3 x 3.67 = 11.01 | 11.01 |
| PSYC 111 (3) | grade C = 2.00 | 3 x 2 = 6 | 6 |
| HIST 111 (3) | grade C- = 1.67 | 3 x 1.67 = 5.01 | 5.01 |
| (Add numerical values 11.01 + 6 + 5.01 ) = | 22.02 | ||
| (divide total numerical value by number of credits, 22.02/9) = | 2.446 | ||
A GPA of 2.45 is higher than the minimum necessary 2.00 to have probationary status lifted. The old numeric value of a C was a 3.00.
