VIU's Arts and Humanities Colloquium Series
The next Arts and Humanities Colloquium Series is on March 4, 2011, in the Malaspina Theatre - Bldg 310.
Ross Desprez, Theatre Department: "History on Stage: Transforming History into Relevant, Entertaining Musical Theatre"
In March, theatre artist Ross Desprez continues a career writing and producing historical plays when he directs the VIU production of We Too, a play by Jeremy Long based on Lynn Bowen's book Boss Whistle about the history of coal mining and the struggle for workers' rights here on Vancouver Island. We Too was the name of a tug working in the Nanaimo harbour and of a miners' newspaper.
In his presentation, Director Desprez will talk about his current work and recount his career of transforming history into musical theatre productions. Through the lens of one director's work, we can explore the use of history in Canadian theatre.
VIU's Culinary Program presents a South African Dinner
Come out and enjoy some innovative South African cuisine and help support another generation of outstanding Vancouver Island Culinary Arts graduates. Carlos, an international student, has planned a meal that includes lingcod baked in banana leaves with white wine butter and coffee foam, New York steak a al Chorrilan with coconut quinoa and a chile and chocolate tart.
