Hello Janina,
 Take a second to think back to your last day of classes, your program's graduation ceremony or your convocation. You likely felt pride, joy, anxiety and relief all at the same time, for it marked the realization of a goal that may have seemed unachievable at times. On January 28 hundreds of VIU graduates will experience these same feelings as they don caps and gowns for their own convocation at Nanaimo's Port Theatre and become VIU alumni.
Convocation will also include the presentation of the 2010 Distinguished Alumni Award to Warren Erhart, president of White Spot Restaurants, who will share his story with the class of 2011.
VIU's alumni office is looking for volunteers for the convocation receptions that take place after the ceremonies. Please contact us at alumni@viu.ca if you're able to lend a hand for a couple of hours to welcome our newest alumni.

'Name the enewsletter' winner
We had a great response to our 'Name the enewsletter' competition - there are a lot of creative alumni out there. Thank you to everyone who sent in entries! After careful consideration by VIU's Alumni Association the winner of the $50 gift certificate is Lorelei Andrew (BA in Liberal Studies and Geography '09) for her suggestion of 'VIUpoint'. Calling all Business Alumni
Business alumni are invited to celebrate and reconnect at the Business Reunion on June 11, 2011 at the Nanaimo campus. Organizers are inviting all Malaspina College, Malaspina University-College and VIU business alumni between 1969 and 2011 to attend this great event.
A full schedule of events is being developed including: networking opportunities, interactive trade show, career/retirement seminars, keynote speakers, family BBQ lunch and a gala dinner.

Save the Date -- 75th Anniversary Celebrations 
It's been 75 years since VIU first opened its doors as a vocational traning school. To celebrate this milestone anniversary the institution is organizing a series of events throughout 2011 and we are inviting all alumni to join us.
Information will be sent throughout the year on special events but please mark your calendars for the week of October 11-14, 2011 when we'll be planning celebrations on all four VIU campuses. |
