As you may be aware, the past few months have been a challenging time for VIU - and in particular our students. While the month long job action is now over, a great deal of work remains in order to allow the university community to move forward and excel consistent with our relatively new status and structure. It is a challenge we will all share and I'm optimistic about our future, committed to making VIU the best it can be and focused on the needs and aspirations of our students.
As we move forward, I'll be working to engage directly with everyone who has a stake in our shared success - our students, employees, the communities where we operate, the provincial government, the broader public and you - our alumni. I trust I can count on you to share your positive memories of this institution with your friends and colleagues, perhaps consider hiring or mentoring a recent VIU graduate or current student, or share your views and ideas with me directly about how VIU can meet the needs of our students and continue to strive for excellence.
You - our alumni - are some of our greatest ambassadors. Together we can ensure VIU continues to meet its mandate to provide an exceptional learning experience for all its students and grow as a vibrant and respected post secondary institution known throughout BC, and beyond.
