Business “Dinner with Alumni”
From Backpack to Briefcase
At the end of September the Development & Alumni Relations Office in conjunction with the VIU Business Students Affiliation hosted the first in a series of “Dinner with Alumni” events that links current students with alumni over dinner.
“The whole idea behind the evening is to provide an opportunity for alumni to mix and mingle with current students and share insights, suggestions and tips for making the most of their studies and transitioning to the working world.” said Jon Beekman, Manager of Alumni Relations.
The evening started with an informal networking event over cocktails which lead to an amazing dinner prepared by students from VIU’s very own Culinary Arts Program. After the meal the students had a chance to ask Alumni specific questions about their professions and hear their tips for beginning a career in business.
“The event was a great start to the year and really allowed me to gain some first hand knowledge about making the transition to the workplace in my field” stated Bobbi Buckle, 3rd year BBA student.
Graham Calder (83), Director, Advisor and Market Development for Freedom 55 Financial, also reinforced the fact “It was a great opportunity to meet current students, as well share some insights on making the right impression when you are first starting out.”
This will be a first of an annual event that will link current business students and Alumni together.
