Reunion Review

Education Alumni Reunion

Retired Dean Mike Grant receives a gift from Dean Secretary, Darlene Higgins on behalf of the Education Faculty. The Education Program 15 year reunion was held May 19th and 20th, 2006 and was deemed a great success.

Highlights of the first night included the keynote address by artist and award winning author Ted Harrison; a tribute to Mike Grant, Dean of Education as he headed into retirement and a great Faculty skit that captured the last 15 years of history of the Education Program. The title of this great performance was 'Down the Education Road' and it included some great music, acting and songs.

The next day (Saturday) was a full day of professional development workshops facilitated by Malaspina Education graduates with topics that ranged from International Education to integrating stamping into the classroom.

The Reunion wrapped up with a family BBQ and social that allowed faculty, grads and families to recap the day and the experience.

Nursing Alumni Reunion

Nursing Alumni Group Photo The Nursing Alumni Reunion was a great celebration of over 18 years of Nursing Diploma and Bachelor of Science in Nursing graduates. We started the Reunion with a special message from Vancouver Island University own First Nations Elder Ellen White. She set the tone of the day with some welcoming words and prayer and emphasized the importance of the work that she does.

Throughout the day alumni, former faculty and current faculty had a chance to participate in the workshops ‘Staying New' and Global Village'. The workshops presented ideas for acting globally in a local setting and how to keep healthy and current in the Nursing Profession.

The Saturday sessions ended with an inspiring speech by Rob Calnan, a former faculty member who has won numerous awards for his outstanding work within the Nursing Profession.

In addition $ 545 dollars was raised towards a one time Nursing Alumni Student Bursary for a current Nursing student courtesy of a Silent Auction. Thanks to all of those people who bid on the Silent Auction Items.

The whole weekend of events wrapped up on Sunday with the Family BBQ and Balloon Twisting for the kids. The Reunion Planning Committee thanks all of those people that attended and stay tuned for more information about future Nursing Alumni events.
