Help! Our Alumni Newsletter needs a name!

Utilize your creative talents and re-connect with your fond memories of Malaspina and you could win a gift certificate for two to the fabulous Discovery Room. Not only that, but you have a chance to become a part of Malaspina history by naming the Alumni Newsletter.

Simply submit your Newsletter Name submission and contact information to alumni@viu.ca by July 31, 2006.

Alumni International

Alumni International is defined as any graduate from another country or a graduate of Vancouver Island University that is working aboard. As Malaspina continues to grow and develop year after year we see alumni traveling and working in all parts of the world. In order to get a better understanding of the needs of Alumni International an Alumni work-op student was employed to host focus groups sessions with international students and alumni. The goal of the focus groups was to gain a better idea of what would keep Alumni International connected to Malaspina.

Through the findings of the focus groups we now have a template for the development of a more comprehensive alumni website that is geared to keep Alumni International connected to Malaspina and their friends. The Development & Alumni Relations Office wants to help alumni stay connected and informed no matter what part of the world they are in. Look for further developments to the Alumni International website in the coming months.

Alumni 101

One of the things that we (and our colleagues) often hear from people is “I didn’t know I was a Malaspina Alumni!” For those of you who are not sure if you are an Alumni we’ve put together this ‘cheat sheet’ to help you:

I completed a certificate, diploma or degree from:

  • Vocational Training School, Nanaimo (1936 – 1971)
  • Malaspina College, all campuses (1969 – 1989)
  • Vancouver Island University, all campuses (1989 - current)

I completed a university transfer program and feel strongly about Malaspina.

If any of the above applies to you, then you are an Alumni!

Institutional Values Survey

Thank-you to those of you who responded to the institutional values survey, a committee is currently compiling all the responses and we will share the results with you, our Alumni and friends, when they are completed.
