Resources for Faculty BA Degree Advising
If you are a new BA student please read the following:
If you know you have Transfer Credit:
Official transcripts must be submitted to Admissions. For questions you can email transfer.credit@viu.ca also see "How to Order Transcripts" in the Calendar for more information.
Once transcripts are assessed, credits will be added to your VIU Student Record. You need to allow time for this process. You can also check your own lower level (100 and 200 level courses) transfer credit through the BC Online Transfer Guide.
There may be a need for instructional faculty or a department Chair to assess the course syllabus for possible exemptions or other considerations when they return from summer holidays August 15, 2011
Review course and program requirements. You can select VIU GPS (program planning system) from the menu options on your Student Record to create unofficial program audits. Just select "Add Goal", the current calendar year, Bachelor of Arts, and then the programs (majors or minors). When finished selecting - save your goal and run the audit. These are unofficial and you can create as many goal options as you like.

You can register two semesters at a time, Fall 2011 and Spring 2012. If a desired course is full, register for it and be waitlisted. Sometimes reserved seats are not claimed and you will not know true seat availability until the course starts. Timetables for Fall 2011 and Spring 2012.
Some courses require prerequisites so check calendar course descriptions. You have attained “Third Year Standing” with completion of 54 credits.

Sign-up sheets, to reserve a space for an appointment, are located in Bldg. 355 near Room 309.
New Students Without Transfer Credits
If you are a new BA student without transfer credits contact the General Advising Center in Building 200, 2nd floor. For July and August, Educational Counsellors are usually available on a drop-in, first-come/first served basis Monday to Friday, 10 am to 2 pm.
