Applicants with Grade 12 graduation will not write the assessment.  Those without Grade 12 graduation will write the assessment which covers the following areas:

70 multiple choice questions that assess the ability to recognize common mechanical situations.

40 questions on:

  • numerals -> words
  • decimals
  • fractions
  • percent
  • rounding
  • exponents - basic
  • word problems
  • algebra - solve simple equations with 1 unknown quantity
  • geometry: area, perimeter/circumference
  • simple square roots
  • metric - units and conversion

60 minutes

Approximate Time: 2 1/2 Hours

A dictionary is not permitted. A calculator is permitted.

To help you prepare for the assessment the following Learning Centres are available:

Nanaimo Learning Centre, Building 205, Room 106. Open hours are normally Mon –Thurs, 10:30 – 2:30. Call 250 740 6425 to confirm.

Cowichan Campus Learning Centre, Call 250 746 3509 to schedule an appointment.

Powell River Campus Learning Centre, Call 604 485 2878 to confirm hours of operation.
