This page chronicles the progress made on the Department's observatory, built with volunteer labour and generous donations of materials. Currently, the obsevatory is usuable and houses a large telescope belonging to a member of the Nanaimo Astronomy Society.
Our first task was to prepare the infrastructure for power and data lines, and also begin preparations to install footings and supports for the structure. In the photo below, note the (somewhat sloping) site of the observatory, along with signs of activity, i.e. concrete forms lying in the grass.
