Becoming an Apprentice

  • First, find an employer willing to take you on as an automotive apprentice.

If you have taken the ELTT (Entry Level Trades Training) program you may qualify for Level 1 technical training credit towards your apprenticeship. If you have not taken an ELTT program you will apply for 1st yr technical training.

  • Then with your employer, complete the Trainee/Apprentice and Sponser/Employer Registration form available at www.itabc.ca (see link to "apprentice forms") or 1-866-660-6011. Mail or fax the form to the address listed on the form, and if successful you should recieve an apprentice number and a registration number. With these two numbers, you may apply for entry to a technical training course at Vancouver Island University.

Scheduling In-School Technical Training

Apprentices are responsible for scheduling their own technical training sessions. To apply, call Kellie Spence, the Apprenticeship Registration Clerk at 250-740-6130, or Kellie.Spence@viu.ca.
