Automotive Mechanic Training

Attend a Free Information Session

We offer three Automotive programs at VIU:

  • All four levels of the Apprenticeship program
  • A 40 week Entry Level Trades Training (ELTT) program - Automotive Service Technician
  • A 40 week Career Technical program - Automotive Service Technician

The Apprenticeship program is a four year block release program for apprentices who are working at an automotive repair facilty. They will come to VIU for 6 weeks in each of the four years they serve as an apprentice.

The Entry Level Automotive Service Technician program prepares students with the skills and knowledge they will need to find a position as an Automotive Apprentice or as a trainee Partsperson or Service Advisor.

The Career Technical Centre program is similar in content to the Entry Level program but it is offered to selected Mid Island Grade 12 students and taught by VIU instructors at our Automotive shop.

Each of these programs are taught by highly experienced Automotive Technicians who value hands-on, in the shop training methods whenever possible. We use customer owned vehicles for much of our training and we strive to keep the learning experience directly related to procedures and skills you will need to have in the automotive workplace. Classroom lectures are presented through dynamic PowerPoint presentations and also through CDX movie clips and graphics.

Click on the program title in the upper left menu bar for more information on each of these programs. Take a tour of the Automotive shop or meet the Faculty.
