On-Campus Student Residences

Vancouver Island University’s residences on the Nanaimo campus are home to over 500 students during the academic year. Residence life is more that just a convenient choice, it is where students are supported through their first year via the robust Residence Life program. Students are able to access programs that support their experience that you won't find off campus. Social, cultural, academic, wellness and community programs are offered weekly in the residence community to support our student's success.

The student residence village offers three types of housing:

  • Traditional Single (single rooms with semi-private bathrooms in dorm building);
  • Modern Single (single rooms and semi-private bathroom in townhouse or apartment);
  • Modern Double (shared room with semi-private bathroom in townhouse or apartment).

All of the residences are furnished. There are shared lounges and kitchens. Heat, electricity, hot water, and restricted wireless Internet access are included in the rent. Specially designed suites for students with disabilities are available. In addition, a central student service building houses laundry and a quiet study lounge. The village also includes outdoor recreation and picnic areas, walking paths and basketball and volleyball courts.

Residence is pleased to offer a first year guarentee to students who qualify and apply by May 1 of their intake year. For information on the first year guarentee and to apply, please consult VIU Residences.

Parking permits for Student Residences can be obtained through the Parking office in building 315.
