Bachelor of Science, Majors, Minors and Transfer
Bachelor of Science - Transfer
Engineering
- University Transfer Program
- Program Fees: Domestic Students, International Students
- Apply for Admission
General Description
The Engineering programs at most engineering schools in Canada, including the University of British Columbia (UBC), and the University of Victoria (UVic), are designed so that students take a common first year core of courses and then chose a specific engineering discipline when they go into second year. VIU's Engineering Transfer curriculum is a set of 12 courses that fulfils the first year requirements at UBC for the B.Appl.Sci. program, and at the B.Eng. program at UVic.
Students who complete the entire curriculum qualify for:
- Guaranteed admittance into 2nd year Engineering at UBC with completion of the entire curriculum in one year and a min. GPA of 2.5.
- Admittance into 2nd year specific Engineering program common pool at UVIC with no min. GPA required.
- Admittance to specific Engineering programs at both UBC and UVic is competitive; All transfer students and those students already in first year at UBC or UVic are placed in the same, common pool for competitive entry into their 2nd year Program choice. Average GPA for entry into a specific program at either UBC or UVic changes each year depending on the number of students applying and the number of seats available.
Students who wish to transfer to Engineering programs offered at universities other than UBC or UVic, should check the program requirements of the receiving institution.
Note: Engineering transfer requirements regularly undergo change. For further information, it is important to contact VIUs Physics/Engineering department, as well as a VIU Advisor at 1–888–920–2221 local 6410, and to refer to the university calendars.

* To meet requirements for UBC, International students and domestic students who achieved a final mark of less than 75% in English 12 should take ENGL 125, instead of ENGL 204, to fulfil the LPI and UBC's English language requirements. ENGL 204 is accepted as transfer credit at UBC.
** Instead of CHEM 150 one of the following pairs can be substituted: CHEM 140 and, CHEM 142 or CHEM 142A.
Effective September 2011: CHEM 140 will replace CHEM 122, and CHEM 142 will replace CHEM 121. Students who have already completed the old Chemistry courses can still use those courses to meet the 1st-year chemistry requirements.
