Hairdressing
HAIR 125T Integrated Salon Experience
Students will apply their knowledge and skills in a recognized professional salon.
Prerequisite: Admission into Certificate Program.
HAIR 136T Theory I
Topics include a written assessment of professional development, salon ecology, anatomy and physiology, hairstyling, hair cutting, hair colouring, permanent waving, chemistry, reception, and trichology. Includes a final exam of Level One from all the above assessments.
Prerequisite: Admission into Certificate Program.
HAIR 137T Theory II
A continuation of Hair 136T. Topics include a written assessment of hair colouring set 3, hair colouring set 4, people skills, chemical hair relaxing. Includes a combined final exam for Level Two from the above assessments.
Prerequisite: Admission into Certificate Program.
HAIR 138T Theory III
Topics include a written assessment of wigs and hair additions, study of the nails, study of the skin, and electricity. Includes a final exam composed of questions from all three levels.
Prerequisite: Admission into Certificate Program.
HAIR 141T Hair Shaping I
Emphasizes the identification of haircutting tools, areas of the head, and fundamental cutting techniques when cutting the hair. Focuses on the proper procedures to achieve the following basic haircuts on manikins and clients: solid, graduation, increase layer, uniform, and plannar.
Prerequisite: Admission into Certificate Program.
HAIR 142T Hair Shaping II
A continuation of HAIR 141T with additional topics focusing on combination cuts, men's cutting, finishing, and texturizing techniques.
Prerequisite: Admission into Certificate Program.
HAIR 143T Hair Shaping III
A continuation HAIR 142T with particular emphasis on uniform and circle hair cuts.
Prerequisite: Admission into Certificate Program.
HAIR 146T Hair Styling and Design 1
An introduction to the art of hair design, hairstyling procedures, and use and handling of professional tools. Emphasis on mastering base and hair control, as well as many styling procedures to produce professional styles and fashions. Focuses on proficient use of styling tools and implements..
Prerequisite: Admission into Certificate Program.
HAIR 147T Hair Styling and Design II
A continuation of HAIR 146T, with additional topics of design decisions, creating styles to suit the client, professional finishing techniques, and products to achieve the desired styles for various hair types and lengths.
Prerequisite: Admission into Certificate Program.
HAIR 148T Hair Styling and Design III
A continuation of HAIR 147T, focusing on demonstrating designs and styles to achieve a professional appearance.
Prerequisite: Admission into Certificate Program.
HAIR 156T Chemical Texturizing I
An applied physical and chemical process to permanently alter the texture of hair in a safe and professional manner. Emphasis is placed on physical and chemical processes involved in different classifications of chemical texturizing hair, as well as different techniques and procedures to produce professional results.
Prerequisite: Admission into Certificate Program.
HAIR 157T Chemical Texturizing II
A continuation of HAIR 146T with more emphasis placed on styles, techniques, and current fashions.
Prerequisite: Admission into Certificate Program.
HAIR 158T Chemical Texturizing III
A continuation of Hair 157T.
Prerequisite: Admission into Certificate Program.
HAIR 166T Hair Colouring I
An applied application of hair colour to the new growth (1/2 inch) only. Emphasizes the even application to the regrowth, clean small parts, adequate coverage, keeping sections out from scalp, aware of hand position.
Prerequisite: Admission into Certificate Program.
HAIR 167T Hair Colouring II
A continuation of HAIR 166T, with more emphasis on permanent colours, lighteners, and fillers as well as focusing on techniques and trends used in current fashion.
Prerequisite: Admission into Certificate Program.
HAIR 168T Hair Colouring III
A continuation of HAIR 167T, with emphasis placed on client colour consultation, colour selection, and formulation of mixtures as well as practical application and technique.
Prerequisite: Admission into Certificate Program.
HAIR 176T Professional Development and Employability Skills I
An introduction to personal and professional development with major emphasis on personal development to promote success within the program to become a professional hairstylist. Topics include credibility, reliability, responsibility as well as personal and professional ethics.
Prerequisite: Admission into Certificate Program.
HAIR 177T Professional Development and Employability Skills II
A continuation of 176T with the addition of a two-week in-salon practicum component.
Prerequisite: Admission into Certificate Program.
HAIR 178T Professional Development and Employability Skills III
A continuation of 177T with an additional two week in-salon practicum component.

HAIR 186T Client Services I
An introduction to effective and efficient demonstration of hair services on clients. Focus will be placed on practicing and incorporating solid patterns of effective communication and people skills to establish a professional relationship with clients as well as demonstrating technical service skills.

HAIR 187T Client Services II
A continuation of HAIR 186T with emphasis on professional relationships with clients while demonstrating client services in a professional manner.

HAIR 196T Salon Business I
An introduction on the effective operation of a professional salon. Emphasis will be placed on team building, operational duties of the salon, and receptionist responsibilities.
