LEAD 100  (3)  Foundations in Community Leadership I

An exploration of theory and skills in community leadership. Topics include leadership styles and techniques; team building; communication; motivating, influencing, and empowering others; managing differences; and effective thinking and problem solving. (3:0:0)

Prerequisite: None.

LEAD 101  (3)  Foundations in Community Leadership II (Ends Nov 2011)

An exploration of theory and skills in working in a community context. Topics include community systems and processes; political systems; identifying community issues and opportunities; diversity and inclusion; coalition building; and change processes in the community context. (3:0:0)

Prerequisite: None.

LEAD 200  (3)  Action Research in Communities (Ends Nov 2011)

An overview of action research and the application of action research skills and knowledge in community leadership. Includes an introduction to action research methods: participatory action research, cooperative inquiry, and appreciative inquiry. Participants will use an action research model to gather data related to a community inquiry, analyze results, and report findings. (3:0:0)

Prerequisite: LEAD 100 and LEAD 101, or equivalent, or permission of instructor.
