Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning / Refrigeration
HVAC 101T Shop and Personal Safety
An examination of the identification and implementation of safe work practices as defined by Workers Compensation Board regulations, and Environment Canada Code of Practice for HVAC/R (includes WHMIS certification).
Prerequisite: Admission to program.
HVAC 102T Shop Tools and Equipment
An opportunity to identify and use shop tools and equipment applicable to the HVAC/R trade. Topics include use, adjustment and maintenance of shop equipment in a competent manner.
Prerequisite: Admission to program.
HVAC 103T Fundamentals of Electricity and Magnetism
An examination of electrical theory as it applies to the HVAC/R trade. Topics include electron theory, Ohms law, series and parallel, circuits, and the role of magnetism in electrical and electronic circuits.
Prerequisite: Admission to program.
HVAC 104T The Canadian Electrical Code C22.1-98
An opportunity to identify and implement safe practices as prescribed by the Canadian electrical code as they relate to the HVAC/R field.
Prerequisite: Admission to program.
HVAC 105T Automatic Controls
An opportunity to identify and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and electronic controls used in the HVAC/R trade. Includes Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
Prerequisite: Admission to program.
HVAC 106T Electric Motors
A focus on the identification, diagnosis and servicing of electric motors used in the HVAC/R trade, including universal, induction, single phase and three phase motors.
Prerequisite: Admission to program.
HVAC 107T Principles of Heat
An overview of the principles of heat as they relate to the HVAC/R trade. Topics include the use of psychometric charts to plot heating and cooling parameters as well as the effects of humidity on air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
Prerequisite: Admission to program.
HVAC 108T Commercial Refrigeration
Topics include the identification of commercial refrigeration components, troublsehooting systems using shop props, and CAI (Computer Aided Instruction).
Prerequisite: Admission to program.
HVAC 109T Dynamics of Air Conditioning, Heating and Humidification
An opportunity to identify, diagnose, and service electric, gas and oil heating systems used in residential and commercial applications. Includes conventional heating systems as well as hydronic heating, and hands-on practical experience on shop props and computer-based instruction.
Prerequisite: Admission to program.
HVAC 110T Liquified Petroleum Gas and Natural Gas Heat
An opportunity to identify, diagnose, and service compressed natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas heating systems. Includes hands-on practical experience on shop props as well as computer-aided instruction using gas heating simulators.

HVAC 111T Alternate Heating Systems
A study of alternate heating systems used in residential and commercial installations. An opportunity to identify and relate solar and wood heating systems.
Prerequisite: Admission to program.
HVAC 112T Air Filtration and Humidification
A study and practice of air filtration and humidity control systems used in the HVAC/R trade. Includes different filtration medium and the effects of humidity control in the living and working space.
Prerequisite: Admission to program.
HVAC 113T Dynamics of Air Conditioning (Cooling)
A study and practice of air conditioning systems used in residential and commercial HVAC/R installations, including package and split air conditioning systems. Includes hands-on practical servicing as well as computer simulations of air conditioning units.
Prerequisite: Admission to program.
HVAC 114T All Weather Heating Systems
A study and practice in the operation, service, and repair of all-weather heating systems (heat pumps). Includes air to air and water to air systems, as well as hands-on practical servicing and computer simulations on heat pumps.

HVAC 115T Chilled Water Air Conditioning Systems
A study and practice in the operation, service, and repair of chilled water air conditioning systems.
Prerequisite: Admission to program.
HVAC 116T Work Experience
An opportunity to gain "real world" experience and make workplace contacts in the HVAC/R field.
Prerequisite: Admission to program.
RFRG 202 Refrigeration Apprentice - Level 2
This course covers all practical and theory components of Level 2 Technical Training.
Prerequisite: Must be a registered apprentice or meet provincial requirements for apprenticeship (have an Apprenticeship ID number).
