Special Message from Meaghan Simister, 2006 & 2010 Olympic Luge Team
Welcome Lugers!
Get your teams together now and get ready for the slide ride of your life!
Competing on a scaled down, yet specially designed windy, serpent like
Olympic luge track, teams will actively compete to have their personalized
Team Luge Sled make its way down the slippery slopes to the finish line and
endless bragging rights.
Start Sliding!
Teams will gain momentum and distance down the luge track by their
average activity minutes and vegetable and fruit consumption. Teams of 5
members or more will designate a Team Captain and Team Name. Each
team will be challenged to complete as many activity cards as they can in
a
6 week period starting January 11 to February
19, 2010.
Each activity card is loaded with luge sleds and carrots. For each 15 minutes
of activity performed, team members can cross off one luge sled. For each
serving of fruit and/or vegetable consumed, a pair of carrots can be crossed
off. The activity card must be completely crossed off and then submitted to
their team captain to then calculate the team’s average activity minutes
per
person per team. Each card is worth 10 hours of activity and 70 servings of
fruit and/or vegetables combined. Each week, average activity minutes
will be submitted and then converted to a designated distance on the luge
track and teams can watch their personalized Team Luge Sled make its
journey down the track. Team members work to complete as many activity
cards as they can in the 6 weeks.
Podium Perks!
Bonus challenges along the way will provide teams the opportunity to add
activity minutes and distance down the track. A celebration in March for
the winning teams will conclude and wrap up this 6 week Olympic team
challenge. Prizes, rewards and huge bragging rights will then be awarded.
Team Transformation!
Registration starts this December. Get your teams together today and get
ready to be transformed on an Olympic journey that will be the “ultimate
test of body, mind and spirit for [VIU’s top sliders].”
“Winning is a reward of this journey, but not the only goal. The true
test is
to find your personal best. While [VIU Sliders] may come here to compete,
success is not defined only by how you measure up against other
competitors, but more importantly, against yourself.”
The Winners…
Let’s let the ice decide.
