American Sign Language (ASL): Prep Level

The
ASL Prep Level, the first of three levels of ASL, is oriented to individuals
who have little or no knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL). Develop a
beginning vocabulary and basic skills to communicate personal and family information.
ASL Prep Level may be used as course credit for a Grade 11 language course.
Career Opportunities:
The ASL Prep Level program is the starting point for career development in the field of ASL. Students who successfully complete all three levels of ASL can pursue careers as interpreters and instructors. ASL is a complement to other professional credentials such as Community Support Workers, Educational Assistants, Child and Youth Care Workers, Early Childhood Educators, and others who work with individuals who are deaf or hearing impaired.
Course Delivery:
The program is offered on a part-time basis, typically evenings and/or Saturdays.

Program Requirements:
No admissions process; Please note: It is strongly recommended that students complete ASL: Introduction To Visual Communication prior to taking the Prep I course. Students who have previous training and/or experience in ASL may be assessed to determine appropriate course placement.
