Career Opportunities:
The impact of downsizing, competition, and change in the workplace demands new ways to manage the dynamics of conflict. Conflict resolution is a critical competency for all positions and levels of an organization as a coworker, supervisor or manager, as well as in dealing with clients and customers.
Program Content:
Required Courses
- Essential Communication Skills In Conflict (2 days)
- Interest-based Negotiation Skills (2 days)
- Mediation Skills (2 days)
- Putting It Together: Coaching And Skill Practice (1 day)
Choice Of Elective Courses
- Conclilliation: Informal Third Party Intervention (1 day)
- Defensiveness (1 day)
- Reframing: An Alternative Appraisal (1 day)
- Designing Conflict Resolution Processes (1 day)
- Get Curious: Effective Questioning (1 day)
- Understanding Positions: Moving To Interests (1 day)
- Harassment, Crisis Or Conflict (1 day)
Course Delivery:
Part-time, non-credit Certificate Program. Courses are scheduled in a workshop format over two semesters. Students must successfully complete 70 hours of coursework, plus the assessment, to earn the Certificate. Individual courses are open to anyone (any pre-requisites must be met).
North Island College has entered into a partnership with Vancouver Island University in offering this program. Students completing courses in this program at these locations will receive credit towards the Managing Conflict In The Workplace Certificate.

There are no entry requirements for this program and no application for admission is required. Note: The first course, Essential Communication Skills In Conflict, is the required prerequisite for all other courses.
Note: Admission to this program does not necessarily meet the requirements for other programs at Vancouver Island University.
This program is not eligible for student loans.
