Deep Bay Skiff
Vessel-Naming Contest- now closed
The Centre for Shellfish Research Announces our second boat naming contest!
The VIU Trades building program is building a new work boat that will service the Deep Bay Field Station Research and Training Shellfish Farm. Please read our recent press release about the collaboration between the CSR and the Welding Program: click here
This 39 foot catamaran aluminum workboat will have a small crane on board for servicing shellfish rafts and be used for farming, training, and research purposes. It will be operated by staff and students and the principle design requirements are to provide a safe and stable working platform. It’s not going to win any races or beauty contests but it is going to be highly functional. Download the general arrangement drawings: click here

We are looking for a new name for this workboat and we invite you to come up with one! Prizes will include a CSR hat, a bottle of Captains Morgan’s Rum, VIP status at the launching and of course the pride of naming VIU’s newest vessel.
Please send your entries to Anna Tillery at the CSR
Please note:
- Names will be judged by a panel of CSR and appointed judges
- The winning name will be chosen on the basis of originality, appropriateness, and other factors such as ability to be coherently made out over the VHF radio in an emergency (no tongue twisters please)
- All names will be subject to Transport Canada eligibility
- In the event of duplicate winning names the first entered will be chosen
Put your entries in now! Contest closes July 4th!
