Background

Additional economic benefits will accrue through the Marine Field Station’s Tourism and Marketing programs. Culinary, Eco and Research tourism are rapidly growing segments of the BC tourism industry. A significant portion of this tourism occurs on south/central Vancouver Island where an elaborate network of Culinary and Agri-tourism opportunities already exist. A range of shellfish-related tourism experiences will be a wonderful complement to this network.

The Marine Field Station’s tourism and marketing programs will become part of a local cultural and eco-tourism network involving the Milner Gardens and Woodland, Tofino Botanical Gardens, Bamfield Marine Science Centre, and numerous Aboriginal tourism operators. Economic benefits from the Marine Field Station’s tourism and marketing programs will spin-off to local businesses such as outdoor activity enterprises, marine transportation businesses; tour operators, tourist accommodations, and restaurants.
