Facilities
The main Field Station building will be a 10,000 sq. ft. multi-use facility with purpose built venues in a flexible design. The special purpose rooms include a seminar/teaching room and an adjoining interpretive foyer/demonstration kitchen on the upper floor; and the teaching classroom and wet and dry research labs on the lower floor.
Commercial research and development components will include a working shellfish farm on nearby deep water and intertidal tenures, on land pump ashore seawater systems with algae culture facility and tank farm on site. The innovative programming planned for the field station will utilize all of these facilities/venues singly or in various combinations.
The Deep Bay Field station will have the following:
- Public interpretive foyer and event space
- Seminar room
- Teaching laboratory
- Marine shellfish farm
- Foyer displays
- Land based seawater tank farm
- Woodland grounds and fisheries habitat restoration
- Wet and dry labs
- Culinary teaching kitchen
- Office and administrative space
