Location and Hours

Location

The Marine Field Station is located in Deep Bay on the eastern side of Vancouver Island. It is approximately 45 minutes north of Nanaimo in the village of Deep Bay / Bowser.

Directions

From Nanaimo, head north on Highway 19 for approximately 40 minutes. Take the Deep Bay exit onto Cook Creek Road, turn right onto Island Highway 19W for approximately 2 Km. Turn left onto Gainsburg Road, cross the railroad tracks and veer left continuing on Gainsburg Road. Continuing straight ahead will take you directly to the village wharf and harbour master's office. Before you reach the wharf parking lot, a sharp turn to the left onto Chrome Point Road will lead directly to the Marine Field Station gate.

Public access at this time is restricted until construction is complete. Please contact the CSR directly for tours.

Hours of Operation

While we are not officially open to the public, you are welcome to come and visit the Deep Bay Marine Field Station when we are here: Monday to Friday, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm.

There are interpretive signs and a touch tank to enjoy. The staff is always happy to answer any questions you may have.
