For Users

The Deep Bay Marine Field Station is a multi-purpose multi-user facility. We encourage collegial interaction between researchers, students, the public and industry.

The Marine Field Station building has been designed as a sustainable design demonstration building architecturally unique: beautiful, functional and “green”. The unique aspects of the buildings and the site itself are designed to facilitate a wide variety of public, educational and venue rental activities that will both advance the goals of the Marine Field Station and provide revenues that will offset operational costs. The design, functional programming and revenue expectations of these facilities have been based on university and public education needs and opportunities, and a competitive analysis of conference and event space within the local area (Nanaimo to Campbell River).

The site plan itself, has been designed by landscape architect, Victoria Drakeford, and is intended to welcome and encourage both guided and self-guided tours. The site plan includes outdoor teaching spaces, event areas, and interpretive demonstrations of native plant gardening, water and riparian area conservation activities, storm water and sewage management and terrestrial and marine ecology. The site plan will support the tourist, educational and meeting experiences of visitors to the Marine Field Station.
