Should you find yourself in academic distress (and this does happen occasionally), the following information may help to get you back on track. VIU has many activities on campus to assist students with their studies, including the following resources:

Writing Centre

Free, personal, professional help, on writing activities of all kinds. Centrally located on the fourth floor of Building 305, the Library. The Centre provides faculty tutors who offer students guided assistance to better writing.

OWL contains writing tutorials, study materials for ESL, research and documenting sources, grammar and punctuation help, and tools for creating outlines, theses help, and much more.

The Math Learning Centre

Building 360, Room 303.

Get help with stats, calculus, algebra or any other math related problems. Hours will be posted on the door as they vary according to instructor/tutor availability.

ABE Learning Centre

Get help with your ABE coursework. Drop-in to receive program study packages and get help preparing for the assessement. Be sure to check out their hours. 740-6425 or 740-6416.

Study Guides

A series of online study guides and strategies that has been researched, authored, maintained and supported by Joe Landsberger as an international, learner-centric, educational public service. These guides have many helpful tips to support students and provide study assistance.

Attend one of VIU Student Success workshops offered by our Counselling department. Helpful topics include note taking, stress management, exam taking and much more.

No time to attend a workshop, then self help online workshops might work for you.
