Requesting a Workshop from the Educational Technologist, Faculty of Education, VIU
1) Identify Some Target Dates
First you will need to identify some target dates for when you want the workshop to run. Check with the Educational Technology Technician (Ed. Tech) to determine her availability for your dates--have her tentatively book your dates if available. (Be sure to leave adequate lead time if you need custom workshop materials developed.)
2) Identifying Appropriate Labs
Not all labs are created equal--and labs are not available 24/7. Determine which labs have an acceptable number of stations for your class & activities. (I.e. are students sharing? need an individual computer? Do you need an Instructor station that connects to a projector? Do you need audio?) Below is a list of the labs you can book for a workshop on the Nanaimo campus. Determine which lab has the appropriate number of stations for your needs. You should have an alternate choice(s) should your first lab not be available--or an alternate date/time for the workshop.

3) Booking the Lab
The Education Lab is booked through the Faculty of Ed. office. For that you contact Darlene Higgins (higginsd@viu.ca). All other labs need to be booked via Darlene Higgins who will forward your one-time request for facility booking. When you've found an appropriate place/time, please email Darlene Higgins (higginsd@viu.ca). She will process the one-time bookings. (You can save some scheduling efforts by first checking potential availability of your top choices at: http://records.viu.ca/reg/htbin/roommenu . Note: This will only show the likelihood of availability actual availability will be determined at the time of booking.) The lab will be officially "booked" only when you receive a confirmation of the booking (generally via email).
4) Consult with Educational Technology Technician
Once you have booked the Ed.Tech and the lab, please arrange to consult with the Educational Technologist, Julia Hengstler (Julia.Hengstler@viu.ca). When developing customized materials, it is advisable to meet at least 2 times: once to outline your educational objectives, types of activities, etc. and a second time to review what the Ed.Tech has developed to determine if the materials need revision, types of revisions, etc.
