BCTF Day on Campus (October 2007)
Thursday October 26th was our first ever "BCTF Day on Campus." Representatives from the BC College of Teachers joined students and faculty in celebrating the workshop theme "Kids Matter, Teachers Care." The day began with opening remarks by Pierre Biouin, from the BCTF head office in Vancouver and proceeded with a welcome address by Interim Dean, Dr. Patrick Ross. Irene Lanzinger, Vice-president of the BCTF, followed with an inspiring keynote address. The speeches were well attended by students and faculty and were presented in the main Drama Theatre.
BCTF representatives presented a wonderful variety of workshops throughout the day.
Hundreds of our students enjoyed the keynote address and the rest of the first annual "BCTF Day on Campus".
The day then commenced with a variety of six workshop sessions graciously presented by BCTF members. Topics included: Working with Aboriginal Youth; Poverty as a Classroom Issue; Working with Parents; Global Education and Strategies for Discussing Controversial Issues. Lunchtime activities included a Resource Fair featuring information and displays relating to a variety of BCTF programs.
Jan Iverson (Advising) was instrumental in planning the day, which all felt was a great success. We look forward to hosting another "On-Campus Day" next year.
