Something Fishy in the Art Room (Spring 2007)
Heather Pastro (Art Education University Professor) recently invited Graham Shuley (Post Baccalaureate Degree Graduate) and his Grade 5 class from Aspengrove Elementary to the campus for an art lesson. The students and Graham enjoyed a field trip consisting of a tour of the Art Building, the campus Art Gallery and a lesson with Heather's Year 3 student teachers.

The lesson was on Printmaking and specifically GYOTAKU, which is Japanese Fish printing. This was a meaningful experience for all, as the Grade 5 students got to work in small groups with their student teacher instructor and the Education students were able to practice teaching strategies and try new techniques.
The environment was one of students as learners from both points of view. It was also a great opportunity for Graham to discuss with the student teachers some of his reflections on his experiences at Vancouver Island University.
