Exchange Programs
International Education Exchange Award $3000
- This award is designed to encourage and support students attending a VIU exchange program. The country of focus will change every year. For 2012/2013, the designated country is FINLAND. One award is available and can be used for either the Fall 2012 or Spring 2013 semester.
Korea
- Chung Ang University – Global Leader Scholarship (for native speakers of English). Students will receive KRW 1,500,000 (approximately $1,380 CDN) per semester and free housing in exchange for 12 hours of cultural and language services per week for 12 weeks of semester. Japan
- Mejiro University – VIU students can apply for the Japanese government scholarship (JASSO) of 80,000 Yen (approximately $895.00 CDN) relocation allowance on arrival and 80,000 Yen monthly stipend.
Summer Opportunities
Korea
- Bahrom International Program (BIP) - Students can take part in an amazing month-long, 3-credit program at our partner school in Korea. The program, accommodation and most meals are free. Students pay a $200US application fee, their own airfare, and for a few gifts.
Japan
- Miyazaki Summer Language and Culture program – This non-credit program offers students the opportunity to study Japanese language and culture. It is put on for a group of students from a Chinese university but a few VIU students are invited to attend. Miyazaki will waive the cost of the program and accommodation for VIU students (you pay your airfare and meals).
- International Education Stipend of $350, $750 or $1000 given to students who study abroad. Some conditions apply.
- Study Abroad Scholarships: A few scholarships are available for students who study abroad:
- Student Aid BC – If you are eligible to receive funding through Student Aid BC, then you will likely be able to continue your funding to include study overseas. See the Financial Aid office for information.
