Orientation Tips for New Employees
We hope these tips, which we gathered from new faculty and staff, are helpful in your early days with Vancouver Island University.
- Make sure to spend time on the VIU homepage as it has maps and directories that will be very beneficial to you.
- The Faculty and Staff link will quickly put you in touch with a Faculty or Staff member and all Instructional and Service Departments.
- The Area or Dean’s secretary will be an excellent resource for you, they are there to help.
- If you have a computer problem, IT is only a call away at 6300 or visit the website at Technology @ VIU.
- Take walkabouts to familiarize yourself with the campus.
- Slow down, take a breath and accept that you’ll be behind from the day you arrive.
- Stay closely connected with faculty at all campuses, exchange questions and ideas frequently.
- Take a library tour and meet people who can help you with AV material or inter-library loans.
- Attend as many workshops as you can – notices of workshops are sent via all employee emails and you register through the InVIU Intranet.
