Engineering 199

Engineering 199 is the first engineering class that students take when beginning their undergraduate degree.  This class provides a basic introduction to the students of the electrical, mechanical, and software design processes.  These processes are executed by students through a group project, which is focussed around a BASIC STAMP II micro-controller.

The project will take the students most of the semester contributing to almost half of their overall marks.  Weekly progress report are submitted to the instructors to make sure that teams are all on track to finish on time.  Interfacing the electrical circuits created with a basic micro-controller program to work the mechanical aspect is what is required.  Students are required to acquire suitable components, demonstrate their designs, and write a full report documenting their efforts.

This class is essentially the students’ first look at the engineering profession.
