The new bus shelters and energy-efficient LED light fixtures are scheduled for installation by the end of September.

**Update: 3-September-2010**

We are pleased to announce the new, relocated Transit Exchange will be in operations starting Monday, September 6, 2010. As a consequence, Fourth Street and Parking Lot N will be open starting Saturday, September 4, 2010.

Please use caution when passing through this site, as a minor construction activities may still be occurring.

**Update: 31-August-2010**

Due to weather limitations, the Transit Exchange Construction Zone will remain closed for vehicle and pedestrian traffic until Saturday, September 4th, with the exception of Delivery and Emergency Vehicles. We expect to restore vehicle and pedestrian access to Lot “N” (North of the Library) at this time, and will notify the campus once this is confirmed.

**Update: 30-August-2010**

Asphalt paving at the new Transit Exchange is on-schedule, and will be complete tomorrow (Tuesday).

Please note: Due to multiple activities taking place on site, access will not be permitted to the top portion of Fourth Street tomorrow (Tuesday, August 31st), except for traffic to Student Residences, emergency vehicles and deliveries.

We expect to reopen Fourth Street (including Parking Lot N) first thing Wednesday, and will notify everyone when this is confirmed.

Once again, your patience and cooperation as we work to complete this project is greatly appreciated!

**Update: 25-August-2010**

Construction on the New Transit Exchange has proceeded well and is now more than 60% complete! Asphalt paving for the exchange is scheduled for Monday, August 30th and due to increased truck traffic Fourth Street should be avoided if at all possible. Please also be aware that some odors may be incurred as a result of the paving process.

The project is scheduled for completion by Monday, September 6th, with the exception of the new, energy-efficient light standards which will be replaced in mid-September. Your patience and cooperation as we work to complete this exciting new project is greatly appreciated!

Transit Exchange – Construction Zone Map

As you are probably aware, construction has begun on VIU’s new Transit Exchange in Parking Lot "P" [between Building 255 and Building 300]. Please be aware of the following important points with regard to construction:

Student Parking

(Lot “N”)

Parking for students will not be available in Parking Lot “N” (adjacent, to the North of the Library). [Note: students with a disabled parking decal will be permitted to pass-through].

Employee Parking

(Lot “N”)

Employees are requested to park in alternate Parking Lots. If this is not possible, please expect delays [of approximately 10 minutes] in both directions.

Short Term Parking

(Lot “P”)

Parking will not be available in Parking Lot “P” (in front of Building 300).

Deliveries & Emergency Vehicles

Deliveries & emergency vehicles will be given priority access through the construction zone.

Pedestrians / Cyclists / Other

Pedestrian access will not be permitted through the construction zone. Click here to link to map [also above] for alternate routes.

Access to Building 250 and 255 is limited to North, South & East entrances ONLY. Click here for detail.

Noise / Vibration / Odours

Noise, vibrations and odours will occur from time-to-time throughout the construction process.

Note: Please use EXTREME CAUTION near the construction zone, and OBEY ALL INSTRUCTIONS of traffic/pedestrian control personnel , as heavy equipment is operating in the area.
